In the heart of Dubai’s ever evolving landscape ,’ Desert Rose‘ – wardat alsahra’ is envisioned as a beacon of the future . The architectural edifice designed for a family of 4 is more than just a house , it is a symbol of harmony, sustainability and connection. The conception of the dessert rose began through the creation of a rectilinear grid , but instead of rigidly adhering to the grid lines , we allowed the land to breathe and shape itself.

Project Brief:

Prototype design of a futuristic house for a family of four in Dubai

Program:

Multipurpose Hall for holding functions

  • Living Room
  • Majlis
  • Bedrooms
  • Toilets
  • Kitchen
  • Servants’ Quarters

Design Ideation:

The design celebrates the ethereal nature of natural light and orchestrates this throughout the various spaces of the house, The transitional spaces are particularly dynamic in their nature and forge a definite connect with water and gardens all around, The water body adjacent to the mashrabiya creates acts as an evaporative cooling device and lends a unique sensorial experience for the users of the house. This space can double up as a leisure lounge as well as a home office and this flexibility is a unique feature of the design.

The Majlis at the Lower Ground level can also be divided up into a home theatre by means of a sliding folding partition. The majlis which is often called the soul of the Emirati culture is celebrated as a large connecting space where connections between the Emirati community and family are forged, stories are told and traditions are honored.
